Sydney’s Archie Rose Distilling Co is set to launch the first in a series of four rare gins, each release celebrating the uniqueness of a Japanese season. The gin is produced in collaboration with acclaimed tattoo artist Kian Forreal, who operates under the traditional Japanese tattoo name of Shodai Horisumi. The hand forged gin “Horisumi Autumn” is inspired by a mutual respect for nature and accentuates the spice-driven notes of red miso, sesame seed and Sancho pepper. It offers gentle warmth as the evening begins to cool. The label design showcases Horisumi’s distinct Japanese style reflecting the transitional tones of Autumn via colourful flora. This was Archie Rose Distilling Co’s first attempt at producing a gin inspired by a label and not vice versa.
Archie Rose also offered some advice on the best ways to enjoy Horisumi Autumn: “Forgo the tonic and try it with soda and your choice of citrus garnish – pomelo would be our pick. It also makes for a mean Negroni or get creative with a Martini and substitute Umeshu for Vermouth”. Archie Rose has already begun botanical testing and is looking forward to the challenge of creating the remaining three Horisumi gins and launching them at the commencement of each season throughout the year.
Archie Rose Horisumi Autumn will be available from Wednesday 1st March. You can pre-order a bottle now via the official website.
