Archie Rose Distilling Co. is set to launch the second of its 4 rare gins distilled in collaboration with acclaimed tattoo artist Kian Forreal (Shodai Horisumi). Each of the rare gins celebrates the uniqueness of a Japanese season, and the upcoming Horisumi Winter conjures the freshness and purity of winter air and the emotions stirred by the colder months.
Grassy and herbaceous, yet slightly sweet, the gin’s flavour profile gives a nod to its Japanese namesake while showcasing locally grown ingredients including Tasmanian Kombu, Fuji apples, Sencha and Genmaicha. The kombu adds a touch of salinity which balances the sweetness of the Fuji apples. This juxtaposition of salt and sweet is an important element of Japanese cuisine. Horisumi’s label design captures the essence of the Japanese winter with a falcon perched on a pine tree branch and Mount Fuji as the backdrop.
Archie Rose recommends enjoying Horisumi Winter in a classic G&T using Fever-Tree Elderflower tonic and white grapefruit or serve up as a gin martini using Maidenii Dry with a grapefruit twist.
The first 200 bottles will be hand wrapped in a traditional Japanese furoshiki wrap featuring the individual bottle number and Winter kanji. Archie Rose x Horisumi – Winter will be available from Thursday 1st June. You can pre-order a bottle now for $99.
