Pornhub Being Sued by The Louvre for ‘Classic Nudes’

When art imitates life, it’s called progressive, but what happens when porn imitates art? According to new reports, the answer is a lawsuit. The Louvre, the Parisian gallery best-known for housing Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is taking adult website Pornhub to court over its ‘Classic nudes’ museum guide. A bizarre take on high culture, Pornhub’s Classic Nudes recreates iconic artworks with a distinctly adult context, sparking a new wave of interest.

“There’s a treasure trove of erotic art around the world – depicting nudes, orgies, and more – that’s not available on Pornhub. These pre-Internet art pieces are currently sitting in museums, which we are now finally able to start visiting again as covid restrictions are starting to lift,” said Asa Akira, Pornhub brand ambassador in a statement. “So as people start to head back to The Louvre or The MET, they can simply open Classic Nudes, and I’ll be their guide. Time to ditch those boring self-tour recordings and enjoy every single brushstroke of these erotic masterpieces with me.”

While the initiative was originally designed to encourage users to visit museums like The Louvre (France), The MET (New York City), The Prado (Spain), The Uffizi Gallery (Italy), and The National Gallery (U.K.), the French icon isn’t happy about it. “Pornhub has heard from our lawyers. We expect the works to be removed at once,” a spokesperson for the Louvre told The Daily Beast.

But while The Louvre has taken offence to the initiative, it does bring up an interesting point. Great artworks have for centuries represented the female and male forms in all their honest glory. Before the advent of the photograph, artworks served an important and often lewd purpose, and many have been quick to point out any disagreement with Pornhub’s take is unfounded. But apparently, the gallery has no issue with the nudity or adult content included in the work, merely the authorisation of the works.

“No one has granted authorisations for the operation or use of the art,” said a spokesperson for the Uffizi in Italy. “In Italy, the cultural heritage code provides that in order to use images of a museum, compressed works for commercial purposes, it is necessary to have the permission, which regulates the methods and sets the relative fee to be paid. All this obviously if the museum grants the authorization which, for example, would hardly have been issued in this case.”

Classic Nudes is currently still available to view on the Pornhub site for your scientific and cultural research.
