When J.K. Rowling first introduced the world of Harry Potter, readers everywhere were most intrigued by the wondrous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It was a place of mystery, danger, adventure, and, of course, magic. Hogwarts was where we were introduced to Harry’s friends, mentors, and enemies. The landscape was a place that was at once familiar and ever changing. Author Jody Revenson took on the monumental task of creating a new interactive book for Harry Potter fans that allows the reader to explore Hogwarts and all its magic—Harry Potter: Exploring Hogwarts: An Illustrated Guide.
The guide “pairs striking full-color illustrations of Hogwarts with interactive elements that reveal key movie scenes, concept art, and behind-the-scenes info on the most memorable locations within Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” Throughout its 48 pages, color illustrations, photos, and artwork give details about iconic locations, such as the Forbidden Forest, the Great Hall, and the Quidditch Pitch. You’ll find plenty of interesting fact, like the fact that Slughorn’s Potions classroom had 500 jars with handwritten labels.
And it’s not just the locations that you’ll find information on. The book also reveals more about the characters, such as what their Patronuses are, as well as facts about the Room of Requirement. Details on Quidditch and how it is played are also shared. Behind-the-scenes facts about the movies’ approach to the rooms and locations described by Rowling also abound, as well as how the film crew worked with the stars. For instance, to make Ron Weasley seem untalented and out of control while playing Quidditch, the crew would fire up to 20 Quaffles at Rupert Grint to fluster him.
The hardcover book is intended for grades three through four, but any Harry Potter fan will find plenty to enjoy. Harry Potter: Exploring Hogwarts: An Illustrated Guide is available for pre-order and will be released on October 8, 2019.
