It must be hard getting tasked with putting together the official trailers for the latest Star Wars film and knowing no matter what you create, it’s going to break the internet. The trailer could consist entirely of a shot of Luke Skywalker on the toilet and hype levels would still be through the roof. Luckily whoever it is takes their job a little more seriously than that and the teaser trailer for ‘Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi’ is one to savour.
There’s nods to the past, epic battle sequences and an enigmatic final quote from Luke himself to go with the equally enigmatic title. Since ‘The Force Awakens’ hit screens in late 2015, the Star Wars franchise has quickly established itself as the Christmas tradition for cinema-goers across the planet and this year will be no different.
‘The Last Jedi’ will be written and directed by Rian Johnson (‘Looper’ and ‘Breaking Bad’) and will mark the final film appearance of the late Carrie Fisher. It’ll look to build on J.J. Abrams’ crowd-pleasing Episode VII and is shaping up to become this generation’s ‘Empire Strikes Back’, no doubt breaking all sorts of box office records in the process.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is scheduled for Australian release on December 14, 2017.
