10 Xbox Games You Should Be Hyped For

When it comes to upcoming titles, there’s a lot to be excited about, especially if you’re an Xbox fan. The Microsoft-backed mega-business has a huge list of highly anticipated games on the way, which is a bit of a surprise, considering the console’s pedigree.  Xbox has never really been known for its exclusive titles, with the company relying more on bringing third-party games since day one of its subscription service. However, to keep up with the competition and changing times and to lure more players into buying their shiny new consoles, Microsoft and Xbox have been on an acquisition spree of late.

Most Anticipated Xbox Games

Presently, Team Green has a fantastic team of first-party studios under its belt that are working on creating new IPs and games for Xbox Series X|S as we speak. Both the Xbox Series X and S are great pieces of hardware and there are some amazing first-party games on the horizon that you simply can’t miss out on. So, we have compiled a list of some of the most anticipated Xbox first-party titles slated to release in the coming future. Let’s jump right in.

1. Redfall

Let’s kick things off with Redfall, an upcoming open-world RPG co-op first-person shooter from Arkane. The game takes place in “the quaint island town of Redfall, Massachusetts,” which currently is under some sort of attack by a squadron of vampires. The attack has disconnected the island from the outside world and now, it’s all up to a group of survivors to free the island. Redfall has four different main characters to choose from, each with their own abilities. The game focuses heavily on cooperative play, but you can enjoy the entire experience solo as well.

2. Starfield

Starfield is without a doubt one of the most anticipated Xbox exclusives of recent times. Being touted as “Skyrim in space,” Starfield will mark Bethesda Game Studios’ first new IP in 25 years, so there will be a lot riding on this one. While there’s not much known about the plot or the story, we do know that Starfield takes place in 2330, 20 years after the Colony War for territorial authority between two of the biggest coalitions in The Settled Systems, namely, the United Colonies and Freestar Collective.

You’ll play as one of the members of Constellation, an institution of space explorers. Players will have the full freedom to go anywhere, do anything, join any faction and more. The game is packed with RPG elements and there will be a ton of ways to customize your in-game avatar. Starfield was originally going to drop on November 11, 2022, but was later pushed to the first half of 2023.

3. High on Life

Okay, here’s a fun one for you. High on Life is an upcoming “action adventure comedy Metroidvania first-person shooter” from Squanch Games, a studio co-created by Justin Roiland, who also happens to be one of the creative minds behind the massively popular TV series Rick and Morty.

Even though High on Life isn’t a AAA title, the game is packed with absurdist humor, which we all have come to appreciate, and appears to feature some excellent gunplay and levels. The game plays out in the far future where the human race has been abducted by an alien cartel and is being used as drugs for aliens. You take on the role of a bounty hunter whose job is to explore the galaxy to save the humans. One of the main highlights of the game is its anthropomorphic talking guns which players will have at their disposal.

4. Forza Motorsport

The Forza franchise is all set to make a grand comeback with its upcoming Forza game. Simply known as Forza Motorsport, the game will be the eighth entry in the franchise and is a series reboot built exclusively for current-gen Xbox consoles and PC. Forza games have always been about sheer racing fun and this new one will be no different. One of the major talking points of Forza Motorsport (2023) is realism and attention to detail. The game will have complex physics, cars and tracks directly from the real world, and much more.

5. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Among all the announced/upcoming Xbox exclusives, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II takes the crown for being the most secretive project. Acting as the sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, the upcoming title will continue Senua’s journey following the events of the first game. The first game ended with Senua finally coming to terms with the fact that it was never possible to bring her lover back. We also saw Senua mentioning that there are still more stories to tell, but, unfortunately, nothing is currently known about Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II plot or what our protagonist has been upto all this while. Hopefully, we will get some answers soon.

6. Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl

After more than a decade since it was first announced, the wait for Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is almost over. The highly anticipated follow-up and the fourth game in the series will see players returning to The Zone of Alienation, a highly contaminated and treacherous region between the borders of Ukraine and Belarus. The development of Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl was heavily affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the game was delayed on several occasions. However, it is currently on track to launch sometime next year.

7. State of Decay 3

Another excellent Xbox exclusive in development right now is State of Decay 3 from the folks over at Undead Labs. It will be the third entry in the series and was announced by Microsoft in July 2020. The announcement was accompanied by a brief cinematic trailer that gives us our first glimpse of the game’s harsh setting and the female protagonist.

Since then, we haven’t heard or seen anything about the game. The developers have gone totally silent on this one, so, chances are, the project might still be in its early phases of development. To top it all off, there’s no officially confirmed release date or window for State of Decay 3, meaning we all got a lot of waiting to do.

8. Avowed

Avowed is a brand new IP from Obsidian that will be set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity and takes place in the land of Eora. The title was unveiled during the July 2021 Xbox Games Showcase, where we got our first and till now, the only glimpse at the game. Judging by things shown in the announcement trailer, it appears that Avowed will be a first-person RPG and will rely heavily on rune-based magic powers and sword combat. We also have no clue about the game’s plot or its characters. Avowed still has no release date and it’s likely still a couple of years away.

9. Indiana Jones Game

After two years, it’s safe to say that Xbox’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks has turned out to be a great bet. There are some excellent exclusives in the pipeline (which this list might already be indicative of) for 2022 and beyond, including a brand new Indiana Jones game.

Announced in early 2021, the upcoming title will be a “wholly original, standalone tale set at the height of the career of the famed adventurer.” It is being developed by the Wolfenstein developer MachineGames and Bethesda Game Studios head Todd Howard is the project’s executive producer. The game is still in its very early stages of development and there’s not a lot of information currently available surrounding the game’s story or characters. The only thing that confirms the existence of the game is a CG trailer packed with subtle Easter eggs for fans to drool over.

10. A New Fable Game

Last but not definitely not least on this list is a brand new Fable game from Playground Games. The developers are calling this new entry as a “new beginning” for the series and was first announced all the way back in 2020. A brief cinematic trailer was also shown off, featuring a stunning world; while simultaneously letting fans know that the franchise was making a comeback after a long vacation.

Since then, we haven’t heard anything from the developers or Xbox about the project. We also don’t know whether the new Fable game will be set in Albion, the country where the Fable trilogy took place, or someplace new. However, following the original reveal, Aaron Greenberg, general manager of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft said, “we’re letting them (Playground Games) get a fresh start with the franchise and really you can see it’s still got the classic British humor that’s really true to the franchise, it’s obviously going to be a role-playing game, we’ve got the best folks in the industry working on it. Today was just the reveal of the game, and we’re excited to officially say Fable’s coming, and we’ll share more when we’re ready.”
