New Single-Player Iron Man Game in Development at EA Motive Studio

Our all-time favourite Avenger, Tony Stark aka Iron Man, has, at last, gotten its own triple-A video game, with Electronic Arts’ Motive Studio leading the project. This new unnamed title was announced recently via a blog post by EA, in which the studio not only revealed the new game but also shared some crucial information surrounding this “all-new single-player, third-person’ format. Of late, Marvel has been heavily focusing on expanding into the games business and has been fiercely collaborating with game studios, lending its IP to help them come up with a fresh new take on some of our beloved Marvel superheroes. Now, Marvel Games has joined hands with Electronic Arts for a multi-project accord, “with Iron Man being the first of several new games.”

According to the blog, the still-to-be-named triple-A Iron Man game will let players experience a brand new and original story that will draw inspiration from “the rich history of Iron Man” and captures “the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man.” This Motive Studio-led Iron Man game will see Olivier Proulx in the executive producer seat, who is joined by some prominent industry veterans, including, Ian Frazier, Maëlenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier at the studio. Proulx has also produced Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy for Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal and was in production leadership for Marvel’s Avengers.

“It’s an honour and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today,” Proulx said in the announcement. “We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”

For fans of the Avenger, the news has been a welcome change of pace. Many have taken to social media to share their enthusiasm regarding Motive Studio’s decision to opt for a single-player experience for this new Iron Man game, as this will help keep the character and the story in the centre of everything and truly enable players to relate to what’s going on. During the game reveal, Bill Rosemann, vice president and creative director at Marvel Games also revealed his excitement over the upcoming release.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters,” Rosemann said. “Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armoured icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”

The game is in the pre-production stage and the studio is aggressively hiring new talent. You can take a look at all the open positions on their website. While we neither have a name nor a trailer at this point in time, a single-player, triple-A Iron Man game was long overdue and something all of us had been longing for. Let’s just hope it’s good!
