‘Mario Kart’ is Finally Coming to iOS & Android Next Month

After teasing us for what seems like forever, Nintendo has dropped two trailers and a release date for Mario Kart Tour on smartphone. Mario Kart Tour is set to go beyond the likes of Rainbow Road, with special city courses inspired by real-world locations like New York, Tokyo and Paris. You can download the game free-to-start and experience it for yourself from September 25.

That’s not to say you won’t race familiar courses. Koopa Trooper Beach and Kalimari Desert tracks from Mario Kart 64 look to be making an appearance. Also there appears to be a new take on the challenging Rainbow Road.

The trailer above gives a quick look at how you will steer, drift and fire weapons using a touchscreen. The second trailer featured below is longer and highlights the different locations, characters and karts available.

Here’s the official word from Nintendo:

“In Mario Kart Tour, players can experience the endless racing fun of Mario Kart while collecting drivers, like Mario, as well as karts and gliders. Players can choose which drivers, karts and gliders to use in races across a variety of courses, including new courses, new takes on classic courses and special city courses.”

“City courses, which are special in-game event courses inspired by real-world locations, will be available during specific time periods at launch and beyond. In addition to courses based on iconic locales, some Mario Kart characters will get variations that incorporate the local flavour of cities featured in the game.”

Like Nintendo’s previous mobile game Dr. Mario World, Mario Kart Tour is free-to-start with options to purchase items. Nintendo is yet to provide info on exactly what those items will be. Mario Kart Tour launches September 25 for iOS and Android.

Players who want to be notified once the game is available to download can pre-register now via the AppStore and Google Play. A free Nintendo Account is also required to play.
