If you like the Pope because the Pope is dope, then this might just be the ultimate role-playing game for you. If you’re religious, well, maybe
kneel sit this one out, because it might seem a little blasphemous to spend a day in the life of the Pontiff.
Coming soon to Steam, Pope Simulator is a new role-playing game being developed by Majda Games and published by Ultimate Games S.A. which will see players take on the role of the Pope. Promising to deliver a realistic experience from inside The Vatican, as you attempt to satisfy the millions of Catholics around the world, Pope Simulator is sure to raise an eyebrow or two.
The game’s description asks players to “face the problems of the modern world from the point of view of the head of the Church.” “Make decisions that will weigh on the fate of humanity, convert and support the crowds. Plan the church’s strategic actions through faithful envoys. Manage your travels around the globe. Fight for peace.”
Despite coming off as a joke upon first
communion glance, it appears this realistic Pope simulator is pretty faithful to the Roman Catholic Church. Featuring depleting bars for “Persuasion,” “Knowledge” and “Sacrifice,” players can regenerate not through potions or mana, but by praying. Yup, just by getting down on your knees you will find your way back to God to continue playing the game of Pope. Or as the game description states, “to summarise your accomplishments on a given day and to recover for more actions.” Clearly there is no rest for the weary.
The trailer shows some pretty epic gameplay from waving to the masses inside Vatican Square to deliberating over secret Vatican files, and even talking down world leaders from using weapons of mass destruction. With options to travel to places in need, or for world events, you can don the white robes and bless all the small children, mothers and fathers around the globe.
“Take over the reins of the world’s largest religious institution – use your influence to change the fate of humanity. In this realistic political-strategic game, you take on the role of pope.”
While there doesn’t appear to be a release date finalised, we’re certain it will make its way among the myriad of early access games, still set for completion. CEO Mateusz Zawadzki said “the works on the game art are at a very early preliminary stage and the first trailer has been released for illustrative purposes,” however even he can acknowledge just how unique the project is. “Pope Simulator is certainly a unique project demonstrating a serious approach to the subject.”
Additional features of the game include influencing the world’s fortunes, interference in international politics, fighting for peace on Earth (can’t wait for the Satan expansion pack) and using your own strength to help others. The real question is, are you able to start a crusade?
