For nearly seven years we’ve been waiting for a new addition to the Saints Row series, and it seems unlikely that we’ll cop one any time soon. Publisher THQ has teased us with a new game, suggesting it will be out sometime next year, but the details are sketchy to say the least. What we can expect, however, is an all-new remaster of the classic fan favourite, Saints Row: The Third, which publisher THQ has revealed will drop on May 22. The new Saints Row: The Third remastered will land on PS4, Xbox One and PC and is set to score a bevy of visual improvements.

According to PC Gamer, the game is definitely a remaster, not a remake, meaning much of the content from the 2011 release remains. More than 30 pieces of DLC are being included in the package, all of which have been remastered. One cool little nostalgic piece is that the remaster does not change the original audio, so you can cruise down the street to Marilyn Manson like you did the first time around. A wealth of time and effort has reportedly gone into improving the lighting and rendering to make Saints Row: The Third look more realistic. All of the vehicles have been improved, with the weapons reconstructed with higher polycounts.
“We had to go back and remodel most of the assets, and really enhance the polycount, the details. Adding details from real-life cars and all that kind of stuff … almost all the effects have been completely reworked. They have many more frames, much-improved fidelity. They’ve been completely re-rendered,” Nikolay Stoyanov, lead art director at Koch Media told PC Gamer.
We all know the real reason people love Saints Row is because it’s essentially a GTA acid trip, so we can’t wait to see what it looks like in high detail. Saints Row: The Third remastered is set to drop on May 22, meaning in just a few weeks you’ll be back to beating people to death with sex toys like you did when it first came out.
