‘Squirrel With a Gun’ is the John Wick of the Rodent World
“It is not easy, but it’s fun, to be a squirrel with a gun.” Well, that certainly appears to be the case, thanks to this trailer for our new most-anticipated game, the wonderfully bizarre Squirrel with a Gun. Now, you might ask, what is Squirrel with a Gun? Well, reread the title and you should have a pretty good idea, because it’s as straightforward as it sounds.

A quick glance at the new trailer shows that this sandbox title places you in the shoes, er, paws of a homicidal rodent running around a suburban neighbourhood causing absolute havoc with a range of firearms – each more cumbersome than the last due to their overwhelming size in comparison to your diminutive protagonist. Whether your whiskered friend is packing a standard handgun or an out-of-control Uzi, the game will encourage you to use them to cause terror amongst local residents or harness their recoil to better navigate the environment – reminiscent of something like a deadly pogo stick.
You’ll need to watch your back, though, as hostile squirrels don’t go unnoticed by the authorities, apparently. According to the game’s Steam page, you’ll have to contend with waves of Matrix-esque agents, defending yourself using various weapons and deflecting their melee attacks with perfect timing.

Currently in development from indie game director Daniel DeEntremont, Squirrel with a Gun harnesses the power of Unreal Engine 5 to bring the armed-up furball to life with an impressive level of clarity. While we don’t expect this game to offer a sandbox teeming with the kind of life we’ve seen from many AAA titles over the last two decades, this does look like a singular – and wonderfully silly – gaming experience.
Squirrel with a Gun is yet to secure a release date, but we’ll be sure to keep you informed when the little guy finally drops on Steam, armed to his tiny teeth. In the meantime, check out the 10 PS5 Games You Should Be Hyped For.
