Prepare to head back to Raccoon City as a free Resident Evil 3 demo drops on March 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam. Resident Evil 3 is, of course, a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis that launched for the original PlayStation back in 1999. This new version is built from the ground up and follows on from the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake which launched in January 2019.
The RE3 demo will be followed by an open beta test for Resident Evil Resistance, a new multiplayer survival experience with the beta arriving March 27.
The demo sees series favourite Jill Valentine return to Raccoon City – a place she once called home – amid a zombie outbreak and sheds new light on events that happened both before and after Resident Evil 2.
For newcomers to the series, the official PlayStation Blog says sometimes the best way to survive the demo is to slow down a bit and avoid running into the open arms of a nearby zombie. On the flip side, there are times where running is your only option – say, if a certain unstoppable bioweapon by the name of Nemesis drops in. For the completionist, there are 20 “Mr Charlie” bobbleheads scattered throughout the demo deliberately placed in obscure locations.
Shortly after, the Resident Evil Resistance beta gives you and some friends the chance to escape a twisted experiment as part of a team of four Survivors, or to take a seat in the Mastermind’s chair and attempt to crush the other players. Resident Evil Resistance will be included with Resident Evil 3, and the open beta runs right up until launch, so it’s the perfect time to start learning the ropes of this unique online game.
The Resident Evil 3 demo arrives on March 19, and Resident Evil Residentance goes live March 27. The complete Resident Evil 3 experience arrives on April 3 for PS4, XB1 and PC via Steam. You can be sure to see more in action in our Top Video Games of the month column.
