Top New Games Releasing in October 2019

It’s October, and we’re edging closer to the holiday season. Publishers are pushing out their heavy hitters with the not-so-subtle messaging that these games will make excellent Xmas gifts. Or if you’re anything like me, that’s far too long to wait for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which releases right before the end of this month.

Other top new releases include the tactical, co-op shooter Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and we can finally get our hands on John Wick Hex which had already received stacks of awards, long before the game was even finished.

The Outer Worlds looks set to be the perfect game for fans of the Fallout franchise, and surprisingly there are two games about hunting ghosts: Ghostbusters and Luigi’s Mansion 3. Finally, one of the best games of the decade The Witcher 3 is making its way to Nintendo Switch for some portable monster-hunting mayhem. October 2019 is a huge month indeed.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

In Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, players create their own unique soldier (Ghost) from thousands of customisation options, gear and near-future weapons, before traversing a South American-inspired landscape and taking on the renegade army known as The Wolves.

Build a class-based crew with up to three other players, choosing between assault, sniper, stealth and more for focused, tactical combat. Players can explore the massive open-world on foot, by car, bike, air and sea, suffer through injuries and fatigue while trying to unravel the mystery behind The Wolves and their leader Cole Walker. You may recognise his likeness. Walker is played by The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal.

John Wick Hex

John Wick Hex is a fight-choreographed strategy game that captures the series’ signature gun-fu style while expanding its story universe. Players must make quick decisions and thoughtfully choose every action and attack while considering their immediate cost and consequences.

Perform well to progress through an original story and unlock new weapons, tailored suit options and locations. Each weapon requires new tactics. Plus, ammo is limited and realistically simulated, so time your reloads and make the most of the weapons you scavenge on the job.

John Wick Hex complements the style of the films with a unique graphic noir art design and features the world-class voice talents of Ian McShane and Lance Reddick reprising their roles from the films.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The stakes have never been higher as players take on the role of lethal Tier One operators in a heart-racing saga that will affect the global balance of power. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare engulfs fans in an incredibly raw, gritty, provocative narrative that brings unrivalled intensity and shines a light on the changing nature of modern war.

Developed by the studio that started it all, Infinity Ward delivers an epic reimagining of the iconic Modern Warfare series from the ground up. Beyond the campaign, players will be thrust into the ultimate online playground with a classic multiplayer experience and an all-new cooperative mode, featuring a collection of strategic co-op missions accessible to all skill levels that only Call of Duty can deliver. See the official story trailer here.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Plumber/sidekick Luigi embarks on a new spooktastic adventure all of his own. When their dream vacation goes wrong, Mario and friends are kidnapped by King Boo. It’s up to Luigi to strap on his version of the Ghostbusters‘ Proton Pack and reluctantly traverse the corridors of an ominous hotel on a quest to save them.

Players will wield the upgraded Poltergust G-00 to slam and blow away the ghosts’ defences, or summon Gooigi, an all-green doppelganger that can help Luigi overcome obstacles he can’t get past alone. Interchange between Luigi and Gooigi as one player, or grab a friend and play couch co-op.

For some frantic multiplayer action, race the timer to clear various objectives on a series of doors in ScareScraper mode with up to eight players.

The Outer Worlds

Lost in transit while on a colonist ship bound for the furthest edge of the galaxy, you awake decades later only to find yourself amid a deep conspiracy threatening to destroy the Halcyon colony.

As you explore the furthest reaches of space and encounter various factions, all vying for power, the character you decide to become will determine how this player-driven story unfolds. In the corporate equation for the colony, you are the unplanned variable.

The Outer Worlds comes from Obsidian Entertainment who developed Fallout: New Vegas, which is arguably the best in the series. The studio looks to recapture the gameplay and storytelling of New Vegas set in a new, original space-faring adventure.
