Necromunda: Hired Gun is a fast-paced and violent first-person shooter where you play as a mercenary enhanced with dozens of customisable augments for running on walls, leaping over chasms and performing brutal takedowns. Your cyber mastiff companion will even sniff out and eliminate the occasional enemy, while your grappling hook allows quick, agile traversal of the massive environments. You’d be forgiven for not realising that this game is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, XBX, XB1
Release date: June 1

3. Mario Golf: Super Rush

Hit the fairways of the Mushroom Kingdom and golf as Mario, Luigi and the gang. Get into the swing of things with button controls, or use motion controls by holding the Joy-Con controller like a golf club to channel those Wii Sports vibes.

Among the new features is Speed Golf. In this mode, up to four players tee off simultaneously and race through the course to be the first one to put the ball in the hole. Dashes and special shots give this golf game that familiar Super Mario flair. Then, take your Mii character from pretender to pro in a story mode that we hope rivals the glory days of the full-fledged RPG that was Mario Golf on Game Boy Color.

Platform: Switch
Release date: June 25

4. Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX

Before Sonic, SEGA’s unofficial mascot was Alex Kidd. Some will remember the big-eared, jumpsuit-wearing character for his catchy soundtrack and boss battles that involved rounds of Jan-ken-pon. Now, 35 years later, Alex Kidd’s debut adventure returns, build from the ground up for the few who remember him, and those looking to explore gaming’s forgotten mascots.

Comprising all levels from the original as well as brand new ones, now’s your chance to experience Alex Kidd in Miracle World as you’ve never seen it. Or, press a button and, at any time, return to the pixelated glory that was 1986.

Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, XBX, XB1, Switch
Release date: June 24

5. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2

Head to the Middle East for a seemingly impossible mission realised through skill, focus and precision from behind the scope of a high powered rifle. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 is said to push new boundaries with its hyper-realistic sniping experience. Players will master a wide arsenal of weaponry based on authentic military equipment, explore vast terrains along the Lebanese and Syrian borders, and take down targets from over 1000m away or up close and personal with a new range of stealth weapons.

Each of the 20 new contracts is highly replayable, able to be completed in a number of ways. The realistic stealth takedowns and bullet time sniper kills are the icing on the cake.

Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, XBX, XB1
Release date: June 4

6. Game Builder Garage

Create your own video games through fun, guided lessons that cover the basics of visual game programming. Then, play til your heart’s content and upload your creations to share them with the world. No previous experience required.

Game Builder Garage gives you the tools to create side scrollers, kart racers, puzzle games and more. But it’s not all educational. Colourful characters and user-friendly design makes constructing games more fun than it should be. Plus, you’ll have a near-limitless selection of user-made games to download if you feel your creativity waning.

7. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance

The first new Dark Alliance game in over 15 years brings to life the world of Dungeons & Dragons in an explosive action RPG filled with real-time combat and dynamic co-op. Frost giants and vengeful dragons roam unchecked as invading armies grow stronger by the day. Up to four friends can join in to fight back the onslaught of creatures and defend against the dark.
