‘More Dutton Drama Incoming’: Paramount+ Renews ‘1923’ For Second Season

The Dutton family drama continues with Paramount+ officially renewing Yellowstone-spinoff ‘1923‘ for a second season. While the world currently lies in wait for what the season one finale holds for Dutton patriarchs Jacob and Cara, Paramount+ is already knee-deep in creating another season. This second spinoff TV series from Yellowstone creator, Taylor Sheridan, serves as an origin story for the Dutton family and is set in the early 20th century. The show centres around the Dutton patriarchs Jacob (Harrison Ford), his Irish-born wife Cara (Helen Mirren) and their family as they try to work their way around the end of the Prohibition period, historic drought, lawlessness, and the Great Depression in 1920s Montana.

The debut season was an absolute banger and an instant hit among fans, with the show’s premiere becoming the most-watched debut on Paramount+ with 7.4 million viewers. Riding on the massive success and chart-topping numbers, Paramount+ has decided to give 1923 season two a go-ahead, which reportedly will conclude the origin story of the now-famous Dutton family. In October last year, Deadline reported that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan will need another full-fledged season “to finish telling” the tale of our beloved Dutton family. The report even claims that similar to the first season, 1923 season two will be eight episodes long. However, no official confirmation surrounding the season length has been given just yet, so you might take this with a pinch of salt.

Besides the season renewal news, Paramount didn’t delve into anything much, which makes total sense as the network would want to avoid any kind of spoilers as the final episode of season one still hasn’t aired yet. Apart from Ford and Mirren, the series even stars Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn and Julia Schlaepfer.

1923 is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions, while ‘Yellowstone’ co-creator Taylor Sheridan serves as the executive producer. Sheridan is joined by David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari and Ben Richardson on this executive producing duties.

Harrison Ford was recently on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,’ where he shared his experiences working with Helen Mirren, who plays Ford’s wife Cara in the show. “She’s still sexy,” Ford expressed. “It’s been remarkable to watch her. There’s a lot of physical action, and she just jumps right in and does stuff you don’t imagine Helen Mirren would do. Dame Helen Mirren.”
