‘Batgirl’ Binned: Studio Cops $100M Loss on ‘Irredeemable’ Superhero Trainwreck
Are you excited for the new Batgirl movie? The one starring Leslie Grace in the title role alongside big hitters like Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons and Brendan Fraser, all directed by the guys behind Bad Boys For Life? Well, we have some bad news. According to reports out of Hollywood, it’s absolutely dreadful. So dreadful as to make it unreleasable for fear of the damage it will do to the already-tarnished DC superhero brand. And so it’s being unceremoniously binned, never to see the light of day.

That’s right. We’re sorry to report that after a number of test screenings, Batgirl’s big-screen debut has apparently been deemed a turkey and will no longer make an appearance in cinemas or on the HBO Max streaming service as originally planned.
The New York Post broke the news, claiming a top Hollywood source said that despite a budget of over USD$100 million, the studio had proved unable to stitch together something watchable. As a result, the film will not meet its scheduled release in late 2022 and will instead sit on the shelf unwatched and unloved, making it one of the most expensive cinematic parachute pulls in history.
According to The Post, the source claimed that “They (the studio) think an unspeakable Batgirl is going to be irredeemable.” And it’s quite telling that despite showing off trailers for Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods at San Diego Comic-Con just last week, Batgirl didn’t get a look in.
All of this is a great pity as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon has been an iconic character ever since she appeared in the Adam West Batman series in the ‘60s. We were also looking forward to seeing Michael Keaton return to the cape and cowl as he takes on the role of mentor to the inexperienced crimefighter. Oh well. At least the streets of Gotham still have Robert Pattinson to watch over them. Check out where his outing as batty billionaire Bruce Wayne landed in our Best Batman Movies Ranked.
