Best New Movie Trailers – October 2020

It’s official. We have trailer fever. There’s no doubt about it. In a world where Netflix and chill is the new norm and enticing us to go out and catch a flick is getting harder, a trailer can lead a film to global success or be the catalyst for missing its mark in the box office. As a result, we’ve seen an unprecedented effort put into the crafting of spine-tingling teasers and tantalising trailers.

But the fact remains – not all trailers are made equal.

Here at Man of Many, we know trailers, man. Whether it’s Michael Myers earning his ‘Employee of the Month’ badge for always showing up to murder on time in ‘Halloween Kills’, or George Clooney’s magnificent beard in ‘The Midnight Sky’ – if the trailer’s red-hot, we’ll have a gander and let you know about it. So without further ado, and to help you trudge through your work week with a slightly lighter step, here is a list of the Best New Movie Trailers that dropped in October 2020.

The Midnight Sky Official Trailer

Starring father time and/or father Christmas himself, The Midnight Sky is a post-apocalyptic tale of epic proportions. The story follows Augustine (George Clooney AKA ‘the most handsome homeless man alive’); a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to Earth, where a mysterious global catastrophe has taken place. Fun fact: Clooney AKA ‘Hagrid with better toothpaste’ directs this Lily-Brooks-Dalton adaptation.

Halloween Kills Teaser #2

Having watched this trailer a couple of times, we’re struggling to see how this movie is in any way, shape or form, a different film to its predecessor. But maybe that doesn’t matter. Maybe what matters is that Michael Myers is good at his job. Say what you will, the man turns up year after year and punches in & out without complaint. He just gets to it. Murderin’ folks.

Dreamland Official Trailer

Margot Robbie needs to start picking better movies. After the flop of Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad, the last thing she can afford to be right now is self-indulgent when it comes to picking scripts. And that’s what this movie is. Self-indulgent, ‘for actors’ drivel. There’s a f*cking ham boning scene for god’s sake. In the ‘plus’ column, the cinematography looks spectacular (sometimes) and we’re sure the acting will be what it needs to be.

Raya and the Last Dragon Official Teaser Trailer

This looks good. Literally. The CGI today is mind-blowing; from the ray tracing all the way through to the textures and gradient. The film doesn’t look bad either. There’s a bit where Raya is raiding some sort of tomb and she throws down a piece of spy-tech that turns out to be a hedgehog creature. Excellent. The film follows its lead, Raya, as she sets out to find the last dragon, in a bid to unite a divided civilisation. The tone of it feels more reserved and mature than some other Disney films too and does so without losing the warm sense of humour that gives it that mouse-ear magic.

What Lies Below Exclusive Trailer #1

This writer wanted the trailer to be garbage. He desperately wanted to pan the film’s lead, Mena Suvari from American Pie & Beauty, but he couldn’t. It looks pretty good, albeit a bit shallow. There’s not much beneath the surface beyond what you see, and ya know what? That’s ok. Long story short, a Mena’s daughter comes to summer in her ma’s cabin with her new, weird super hawt boyfriend – who also happens to be a mad scientist/fish monster.

‘Immediately adds to watchlist’

Songbird Trailer #1

In the running to be the least tasteful film of 2021, Songbird shows us what it might be like if we got up to Covid-23 and we were still all in lockdown. Sans 110,000,000 deaths and total government control. Demi Moores in it, and if you have the virus and try to escape, you will be shot on sight. A satire for normal people or a warning of what’s to come for tin foil hatters, Songbird is a straight-to-stream in the vein of The Purge, but not of the same league.

Proxima Official Trailer

Starring Eva Green, the Proxima trailer is an opera of searing emotional moments and flashes of the futuristic anchored with familiar earthly views. A story about space set primarily on earth, the film follows Green’s preparation for a long mission off-planet. It’s in her relentless pursuit of perfection and the heartache of leaving her daughter that we find the reason to watch this movie. Green’s performance is said to be incredible, which makes sense considering the Western buzz around a film with lot’s of French-speaking dialogue. This is one not to be missed and you can rent it right now via Youtube, thanks to our viral friend COVID-19.
