The ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Movie: Release Date, Trailer, Plot
After years of waiting, 20th Century Studios has unveiled a first look at the highly anticipated Bob’s Burgers Movie. Unveiled during the National Championship college football game, the opening trailer for the full-length feature film takes fans back to where it all began, the beleaguered burger shop helmed by the world’s least enthusiastic chef. But there’s more here than just that standard family hijinks.

According to the official synopsis, the Bob’s Burgers Movie will be an animated, ‘big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure’ based on the long-running Emmy-winning series. When a ruptured water main wrecks havoc on the Belcher family business, a successful summer looks entirely out of reach. With an enormous sinkhole blocking the entrance indefinitely and Bob and Linda struggling to keep the business afloat, the kids attempt to solve the mystery that could save their family’s restaurant.
Based on Loren Bouchard’s animated series, the new movie takes everything fans have learned from the incredible 12-season run and translates it onto the big screen, bringing the wild cast of characters to life in a bold new way. H. Jon Benjamin, famous for his voiceover work in Archer reprises his role a the family patriarch, with John Roberts playing finicky wife Linda, Dan Mintz as the awkward teenage Tina, Eugene Mirman as the outlandish Gene, and Kristen Schaal as the devious Louise.
Considering Disney’s recent track record with Fox releases and animation in general, I feel like if the Bob’s Burgers movie is actually released in theaters, I’ll eat a shoe. (A metaphorical one, not like @misterpatches with Top Gun.)

While the announcement does whet fans’ appetites, it does come a little late. Bouchard announced the project back in 2017 and since then, it’s been a painstakingly long wait for those eager to see a full-length iteration. Some even suggested the film was destined for the editor’s floor, but alas, the bigwigs at 20th Century Studios have finally delivered.

“We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen,” Bouchard said back in 2017. “We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colours and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s, but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?”
The Bob’s Burgers Movie will open in Australian cinemas on May 26, 2022. You can view the first trailer above.
