‘Citadel’ Gives Us an Enticing Glimpse of All Richard Madden’s James Bond Could Have Been

If the rumours are to be believed, Richard Madden is not the new James Bond. But after watching his appearance in the new trailer for Citadel we think it’s fair to say he’s doing just fine. After all, Citadel‘s a new action series from Anthony and Joe Russo – the brothers behind those little indie flicks Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame – that’s coming to Amazon Prime Video on April 28 and looks like it has the potential to be quite the good time.

Starring alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Stanley Tucci, Madden plays a secret agent rebuilding his life eight years after his memory was wiped following the collapse of his spy agency employer, Citadel. Now that a sinister syndicate called Manticore is rising in its place, Madden is tracked down by a former colleague (Tucci) and reunited with his partner (Chopra Jonas) in order to embark on a white-knuckle mission that takes them around the world.

If all that sounds somewhat silly, that’s because it is, but the trailer appears to fondly echo the James Bond franchise from a time before 007 went all po-faced – that’s not to say we don’t appreciate everything you’ve done for us, Daniel. We could be mistaken, but we’re pretty confident there’s some of Pierce Brosnan’s Goldeneye in there at the very least, and that skiing sequence definitely recalls vintage Roger Moore.

Okay, some of the CGI looks a little ropey – now we think of it that might be what reminds us of Brosnan’s Bond – but the actors look like they have chemistry to spare and the whole thing seems like a bit of fun, so if you’re looking for something to watch by the time April draws to a close, Citadel might just be worth a look.
