Harrison Ford is Joining the MCU as Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross
Harrison Ford is all set to make his big Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in 2024’s Captain America: New World Order. Ford landed the role following the tragic death of William Hurt, who first played the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, as a U.S. military officer and the head of the gamma bomb project that was responsible for turning Bruce Banner into the green giant. However, the veteran actor sadly passed away in March of this year and was last seen as Ross in 2021’s Black Widow.

Hurt is now being replaced by Harrison Ford, who will be appearing as Ross in the upcoming film with Anthony Mackie in the lead, reprising his role as Sam Wilson. It will be the fourth Captain America movie and even though we are light on details surrounding the film’s plot, it’s being said that New World Order will pick things up after events of the The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw Wilson assuming the shield and mantle of Captain America. The creator of the Marvel Disney+ series, Malcolm Spellman, has written the script for New World Order, with Julius Onah directing the whole thing. Dalan Musson and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige will produce the film. Captain America: New World Order is currently slated to release on May 3, 2024.
However, this won’t be the only MCU film for Harrison Ford and it seems like Ford has been signed for a multi-movie deal. The Hollywood Reporter says that the 80-year-old veteran actor will reprise his role as Ross in the upcoming Marvel Thunderbolts film, which is currently in development, with Jake Schreier in the director seat. Eric Pearson will be penning the script and as per reports, the film will kick off production in the Summer of 2023.

Marvel Thunderbolts has a release date of July 26, 2024, and will see a group of supervillains with the same name teaming up to go on assignments for the government. While this might be Harrison Ford’s first outing as an MCU character, the actor is no stranger to big-name franchises and has been a part of some major big-screen blockbuster films in the past.
Ford has previously starred in Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Blade Runner, along with several other well-known movies. The actor will be making his return as the bodacious archaeologist Indiana Jones for the franchise’s yet-to-be-named fifth and final film, which currently has a release date of June 30, 2023.
