‘Batgirl’ Axing Sparks Hilarious #HBOMaxJustCanceled Memes

Superhero fans were shocked last week when Warner Bros. Discovery announced it would permanently delete its USD$90 million Batgirl film from the release schedule. However, it seems the studio wasn’t done with the eraser, axing an entire host of content that even included titles on its subsidiary HBO Max. Upon hearing the concerning news, fans launched an onslaught of hilarious memes online, proving once again that the internet remains well and truly undefeated.

In the days that followed the Batgirl news, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed it also cancelled the Strange Adventures animated series, The Wonder Twins and Supergirl movies, animated series Little Ellen, Lebron James’ House Party reboot, and the Scoob!: Holiday Haunt flick. HBO Max also removed six films from the service labelled as Max Originals, including Moonshot, Superintelligence, The Witches, An American Pickle, Locked Down, and Charm City Kings.

According to Variety’s reports on Thursday, “only one new DC feature project currently has a greenlight post-merger: “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which is scheduled to hit theatres in 2024.” The report continues: “Writer-director Matt Reeves is on track for a sequel with star Robert Pattinson, but the project remains in development and does not yet have a greenlight — any future film is years away. Several other DC properties have been in development as feature films, some for years” — “Wonder Woman 3″ (with Patty Jenkins directing”), “Superman” (with Ta-Nehisi Coates writing”), “Zatanna” (with Emerald Fennell writing) “and “Static Shock” (with Michael B. Jordan producing) — but there haven’t been any substantive updates on these films since news of them first broke.”

Given the company’s bizarre and unprecedented move, fans are creating their own hilarious show and movies for Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO Max to cancel. Take a look at the most hilarious #HBOMaxJustCanceled memes below:
