WATCH: Things Look Grim in the Final ‘House of the Dragon’ Trailer
If you’ve been living under a rock, you may be surprised to learn there’s a new Game of Thrones-adjacent series about to drop called House of the Dragon and a final trailer (in glorious 4K no less) has landed, providing even more of a hint at what we can expect when the first episode arrives on Monday, August 22.

Now, we know the original Game of Thrones series really flubbed the ending (because the showrunners wanted to jump ship and make a Star Wars project that was ultimately binned), but it’s important to remember just how good that show was for so many years before arriving at the underwhelming final season. Keep the glory days of Daenerys and Drogo in mind and you might just find yourself getting hyped at the thought of a return to Westeros and its dragon-filled skies.
House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the original series and will reportedly explore the various violent and political goings on around an infamous event from Westeros history called the Dance of Dragons. Taking into account that this was a civil war between siblings Aegon II and Rhaenyra following the death of their father, Viserys I (the king), we’re willing to bet there’ll be quite a lot of backstabbing of both the metaphorical and literal kind.
The trailer shows off plenty of battles, that throne made of swords and more dragons than you can shake a crispy limb at. The impressive cast, which features Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Sonoya Mizuno and Rhys Ifans can be seen either muttering in foreboding fashion or shouting threateningly, so it’s business as usual for this particularly grim corner of fantasy fiction.
The first episode of House of the Dragon launches in Australia on August 22 and will be available to watch via Binge. Let’s hope they stick the landing this time.
