Warning: Breaking Bad-related spoilers ahead.
With less than a month to go before El Camino—Netflix’s Breaking Bad spin-off film–airs vis the entertainment behemoth’s streaming service, fans have been champing at the bit to get any and all information on the project as possible. Now, thanks to a few leaked photos from the set, the world has been given a taste of what’s to come.
El Camino looks set to focus on Breaking Bad protagonist Walter “Heisenberg” White’s offsider Jesse Pinkman, portrayed by Emmy-winner Aaron Paul. According to the official synopsis from Netflix: “In the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future.”
Breaking Bad won 16 Primetime Emmy Awards against a whopping 58 nominations during its five seasons. The upcoming film was set to look at the goings-on of Pinkman’s life after the imminent death of White–portrayed by Bryan Cranston–in the show’s finale, but shots from the set seem to suggest otherwise.
Though details are scarce and this is mostly speculation, leaked photos show sets that have been used in the filming of El Camino, around Albuquerque, New Mexico, that were no longer used by the end of Breaking Bad, suggesting the use of flashbacks in the film. Both the infamous trailer that Walter and Jesse used as a meth lab, which was blown up in season three, and the duplex where Jesse lived with girlfriend Jane, who subsequently overdosed there, have been spotted by keen observers as filming locations, suggesting that Walter White’s character makes a comeback.
Whether or not this is just an elaborate (and expensive) ruse by the producers to throw fans off the scent of the real storyline remains to be seen, but whatever the outcome, die-hard tragics of the show will undoubtedly be calling in sick on October 11 to log on and find out the true fate of the elusive Jesse Pinkman.
