Amazon Prime Video to Launch James Bond Reality Series

All Bond fans have imagined what it would be like to live the life of a secret super spy. Well, the brain trust at Amazon Prime Video is now giving the public the chance to live out their 007 dreams, greenlighting a new reality TV show based on the suave British agent called “007’s Road to a Million”. However, before you get any ideas, this is not some interview for the vacant spot following Daniel Craig’s recent departure from the franchise.

The eight-part series will show contestants participating in a James Bond-style race around the world – think The Amazing Race with Aston Martins, machine guns and shaken Martinis. Filmed in several iconic locations featured throughout the seminal Bond films, the format will test both endurance and intelligence. Fighting for £1 million (AUD$1.44 million), teams of two will have to pass physical obstacles and correctly answer questions hidden in different locations around the globe to proceed to the next challenge. Production on “007’s Road to a Million” is scheduled to begin later this year, with applicants now being invited to send in submissions. The new show will launch in more than 240 countries and territories.

The series will be produced by Britain’s 72 Films, responsible for projects such as The Rise of the Murdoch Dynasty and All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur. Working alongside the company will be “guardians” of the Bond franchise Barbara Broccoli, Michael G. Wilson, and MGM Television. Former Channel 4 executive Dom Bird, who joined MGM to oversee its international unscripted unit back in 2019, will manage the series on behalf of the studio.

CEO of 72 Films, David Glover, told Variety that the reality show had been on the cards for quite a while. “I first had this idea over three years ago. Dan Grabiner and the U.K. Originals team took it to a whole other level.”, Glover said. To be working with Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and the Bond franchise is a privilege and a dream come true.”

As you’d expect, the internet has reacted accordingly to the news, labelling the move as an absolute disaster for the James Bond franchise. Check out the best reactions from Twitter below.
