First, they gave us John Wick. Then came John Wick 2. Then, they surprised us with John Wick 3. Now, as cinemagoers and fans of the plucky assassin-turned-exile are still having their stubs punched at the box office to see the latest instalment, Lionsgate has announced that a fourth John Wick film is in the works, and is set to be released on May 21, 2021.
The announcement came via text message to fans which read: “You have served. You will be of service. John Wick: Chapter 4 is coming – May 21, 2021.”
The series of films has been a boon for Lionsgate, as well as having invigorated a renewed interest in Keanu Reeves since his Matrix days.
The film series follows the dangerous escapades of ex-assassin John Wick, who finds himself in all manner of devilish hijinks when, really, he just wants to live a nice quiet life with his puppy and his vintage muscle car.
Each film has been significantly more popular than the last, with audience sizes growing notably with each film’s release; the third instalment, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, taking nearly USD$57 million at its opening weekend box office, knocking Avengers: Endgame off its three-week perch.
