Peters has been tasked with portraying the serial killer, who murdered seventeen innocent men between 1978 and 1991. Rape, dismemberment, necrophilia, and cannibalism were all parts of his modus operandi.

Co-created by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee) and Ian Brennan, their series “exposes these unconscionable crimes, centred around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade,” according to the official synopsis.

Alongside Peters, the series also stars Richard Jenkins, Michael Learned, Molly Ringwald and Niecy Nash. Behind the scenes, Murphy and Brennan will be joined by Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Carl Franklin and Janet Mock as executive producers.

“Over the course of 10 powerful episodes, Dahmer shines a spotlight on the as-yet untold stories of Dahmer’s victims, the people who tried to stop him and the systemic failures that enabled him to continue his murderous spree for over a decade,” a post from the Ryan Murphy Productions Instagram account read. “Which is why we needed two trailers to properly showcase the complex story.”

True crime lovers can expect a second trailer to drop on September 20, with Dahmer –Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to premiere on Netflix on September 21.
