Netflix Trailer For Steve Carell’s Space Force Has Major Michael Scott Energy

We’ve often asked ourselves what would happen if Michael Scott from The Office graduated from Dunder Mifflin paper company and went on to lead the United States’ space program? Ok, so no one has ever asked that, but based on the first trailer for Steve Carell’s new Netflix show Space Force, we should have been.

Space Force Steve Carell

A first look at Steve Carell as four-star general Mark R. Naird hit YouTube last night and it looks hilarious. The workplace comedy follows Naird, a decorated pilot whose dreams of running the Air Force were thrown off course when he is given control of a new branch of the US Armed Forces; Space Force. From there, we see Naird bumble his way through life with the same charm and blissful ignorance we came to love from Michael Scott.

Naird’s similarities to Scott aren’t the only reason The Office fans should be excited. Space Force comes from The Office writer Greg Daniels, marking a reunion between the two comedy giants, but this time around, the pair aren’t afraid to poke fun at America. One of the running jokes involves members of the special forces laughing or mocking orders from an un-named president. While Trump isn’t mentioned, it’s funny to note that the name Space Force is a direct quote from the US President. Back in 2018, he called for the creation of “Space Force” which was subsequently launched last year.

Netflix’s new Space Force looks to be a winner, but with John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Lisa Kudrow, Seve Carell and Greg Daniels behind the wheel, did you expect anything less? Space Force starts streaming on May 29th.
