WATCH: Don’t Dare Cross Harrison Ford in the New ‘1923’ Trailer
If we’re honest, we’ll watch just about anything with Harrison Ford in it. From Han Solo and Deckard to Jack Ryan and the soon-to-return Indiana Jones, Ford’s played some of the most iconic roles over the last 50 years. Now, a new trailer for the Paramount+ series 1923 – premiering December 19 – has us thinking we might be about to add Jacob Dutton to that list of unforgettable characters, with Ford taking on the role to lead a cast that includes Helen Mirren, Jerome Flynn, and Timothy Dalton for creator Taylor Sheridan’s latest spinoff to his wildly successful Yellowstone series.

Following the gut punch that was 1883 – the highly affecting first prequel to Yellowstone, which followed the Dutton clan on their initial foray into the American heartland – our expectations for 1923 are pretty high.
From the trailer, it looks like Ford as the Dutton patriarch and his equally formidable wife Cara (Mirren) must defend their claim to the Yellowstone, securing their hold on the land that will eventually pass to their ancestor, Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, by the time the modern-day setting of Yellowstone comes around.

In addition to the various violent inter-family rivalries and politicking at the barrel of a gun that have always driven Yellowstone and its spinoffs, the synopsis for the new show suggests it will also deal with prohibition and the impact of the Great Depression. This is sure to put the squeeze on the Dutton family, forcing them to take drastic action in order to ensure they’re the ones who come out on top – desperate times call for desperate measures.
The first of 1923’s eight episodes will start streaming on Paramount+ from December 19. While you wait, be sure to get up to speed with everything Yellowstone, including the latest episodes of Season 5, which are currently streaming on Stan.
