New on Netflix – February 2022

Say what you will about our towering streaming overlords but they aren’t afraid to take a few risks. Whether it be tackling racial barriers with a new Bubba Watson series, diving into an unscripted murder mystery or dealing with whatever PR nightmare will inevitably ensue once Kanye West’s long-awaited documentary is released, Netflix is sticking to its guns. Namely, serial killer series and Tyler Perry’s questionable weave. When it comes to what’s New on Netflix in February 2022, it’s a seriously mixed bag.

Best New Series on Netflix in February 2022

Murderville

Murder, mayhem and improv combine in this bonkers new series. Bojack Horseman’s Will Arnett stars as Senior Detective Terry Seattle, an officer in the Homicide Division tasked with solving a new murder case every day. But this ain’t your run of the mill Law and Order remake. Each episode of this increasing erratic show sees a celebrity guest star as his partner. The best part? There’s no script. Instead, Terry and his guest will have to improvise their way through the case, picking up clues and trying to figure it all out. Landing somewhere between Thank God You’re Here and CSI, Murderville looks insanely entertaining…or a complete trainwreck. We’ll find out.

Disenchantment: Part 4

Matt Groening’s follow-up to The Simpsons and Futurama may not have lived up to expectations straight off the bat, but Disenchantment has steadily been building. Part 4 of the Netflix series sees hard-hitting, hard-drinking Queen Bean, Elfo and personal demon Luci racing to reunite. From the depths of Hell to the clouds of Heaven, Part 4 goes pretty much everywhere. Sure, the jokes aren’t Season 7 Simpsons quality, but they still get the job done.

Inventing Anna

Hell yeah, remember Anna Delvey, the fraudster who convinced the world she was a wealthy German heiress? In this new series, we follow a reporter digging into how the crook fooled New York’s elite in a dazzling display of smoke and mirrors.

Release Date: February 11

Dark Desire: Season 2

To be honest, season one of this series slipped right past us, but tuning in for season two is definitely on the cards. Based on the trailer, we’re not really sure what’s happening or who is involved with who, but it matters less. A visual feast for the eyes.

Release Date: February 2

Love Is Blind: Season 2

Kind of like Married at First Sight, just without the obvious clout-chasing, Love is Blind captured worldwide attention with season 1. Now, the hit show about marriage-minded singles looking for love with their eyes closed is back and it’s bringing a whole host of cringy first-date chat along with it.

Release Date: February 11

Space Force: Season 2

Steve Carrell and Greg Daniels together again, what could be better? Well, based on the lacklustre first season, a lot. Netflix’s much-hyped and not well-received comedy series Space Force is returning to our screens in February 2022, set to build on a slow start back in 2020. This time around, General Naird and his dysfunctional but endearing crew have four months to prove that Space Force is worth keeping around, which sounds more like a thingly-veiled pitch to Netflix than it does plot point.

Release Date: February 18

Vikings: Valhalla

Oh lordy, this looks good. This insane sequel to Vikings arrives 100 years after the History Channel’s hit series and introduces a new generation of legendary heroes. Braids, tattoos and blood eagles at the ready.

Best New Movies on Netflix in February 2022

Tall Girl 2

Honestly, Netflix is just f*cking with us at this point, right? After some less-than-positive online chat that crit for comparing being tall to actual inequality, the streamer has returned with a second instalment in this bizarre teenage romp. Somehow, Jodi has landed the lead in the high school musical but there’s (size 13) trouble afoot.

Release Date: February 11

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

That’s what we needed, another Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. After nearly 50 years of hiding, Leatherface returns to terrorise a group of idealistic young friends who accidentally disrupt his carefully shielded world in a remote Texas town.

Release Date: February 18

Fistful of Vengeance

Looking like a Michael Bay movie with a hint of Jackie Chan thrown in, Fistful of Vengeance might be the only Netflix film we’re genuinely shocked by. Explosions, action and some kind of superpowered assassin, we can’t believe Nicolas Cage didn’t sign up for this one.

Release Date: February 17

Love and Leashes

Definitely, one we initially overlooked, Love and Leashes might be a surprise hit. Much like the problematic hit 365 Days, the new series passes off BDSM fantasy as a bit of midday viewing. When two co-workers enter a contractual relationship as partners in consensual pleasure and pain, things get a little interesting. Imagine the water-cooler conversations at this office.

Release Date: February 11

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Homecoming

For those who have never really delved into the Madea franchise before, Netflix is offering up an easily digestible starting point. Tyler Perry’s no-nonsense grandma is returning in this family comedy that sees chaos erupt at her great-grandson’s college graduation celebration. Bizarrely comforting.

Best New Documentaries on Netflix in February 2022

jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy

This is the big one. The long-awaited and deeply controversial (by his own admission) Kanye West documentary is finally here. Chronicling the life of the rap legend in an intimate three-parts, the series provides a never-before-seen look at the world’s most enigmatic performer. Raw, visual and littered with iconic moments, jeen-yuhs is going to be the most-talked-about docu-series since The Last Dance, mark our words.

Release Date: February 16

The Tinder Swindler

Here’s where Netflix hits its honey-hole. Taking a deep dive into the world of serial killers and conmen, the streamer kicks things off with the hilariously named The Tinder Swindler. Posing as a wealthy, jet-setting diamond mogul, this master criminal wooed women online then conned them out of millions of dollars. Now some victims plan for payback.

Release Date: February 2

Catching Killers: Season 2

Season 1 was badass and season 2 of Catching Killers looks even more impressive. In this instalment, the detectives who captured the BTK Killer and other notoriously brutal murderers recount the brave actions and burdens behind their investigations.

Release Date: February 9

Race: Bubba Wallace

As NASCAR’s only full-time Black race car driver, Bubba Watson has had to battle more than just speed to get to where he is. In this new Netflix series, we go behind the scenes of his first year with Michael Jordan‘s 23XI Racing team, an organisation founded by the basketball legend to help promote Black NASCAR drivers. But it wasn’t just a history-making season on the track. Watson drew major acclaim after speaking out on the racial injustices of the sport and putting to action the removal of the Confederate flag from the events.

Best New Comedy on Netflix in February 2022

Ms. Pat: Y’all Wanna Hear Something Crazy?

Forgive us, but until this trailer was released, we hadn’t heard of Ms. Pat, but we do now. In this new special, the comedian recalls growing up poor in Atlanta during the Reagan era, what she learned spending five days in juvenile detention and how her mom made her get baptised at local churches to get money.
