After being AWOL for months on end, Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury is back and ready to put an end to the Skrulls takeover in the latest trailer for Disney+’s upcoming Secret Invasion series. The latest trailer gives us a peek at the impending and brewing war between the Skrulls and Nick Fury, who has just returned to Earth from his long hiatus in space. Check it out above.
The series draws inspiration from the Marvel comics of the same name and ties perfectly to how things currently are in the MCU. Following his time up in space, Fury has come back to Earth and reunited with his Skrull ally Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) as the duo looks to stop the Skrull army from taking over the planet. While Secret Invasion’s new trailer is mostly a repackaged version of the first one, the trailer does include a bunch of fresh scenes that set up the stakes for what lies ahead for the man behind the Avengers Initiative.
The newly dropped preview does a great job of revealing just enough to keep us on our toes and leave us guessing as to what will happen next. We see Mendelsohn’s Talos briefing Fury about the state of things since he left and how “things have gotten much worse.” The footage even shows us Fury visiting his own grave, which is a subtle hint that his presence still hasn’t been forgotten. Secret Invasion also introduces Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman and Kingsley Ben-Adir to the MCU. Although unconfirmed it’s being speculated that Ben-Adir’s Gravik will be the main villain in the show.
Fury doesn’t want to involve the Avengers and wants to take care of things alone. Despite this, we do see him teaming up with some new faces along the way, including MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth, played by Olivia Colman. The upcoming TV series will see Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle and Martin Freeman reprise their roles as Maria Hill, James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Everett K. Ross respectively. The trailer concludes with Fury suiting up for “one last fight”, as he and his crew look to put an end to the invasion of shapeshifting Skrulls. Based on everything that we have seen so far, the series does shake up the formula, adopting a different approach to storytelling and piquing our interest in the process
Besides the return of old cast members, Secret Invasion will also introduce us to some fresh faces in the MCU, including Emilia Clarke as G’iah – the daughter of Mendelsohn’s Skrull character, Olivia Colman as Sonya Falsworth, and Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik. Dermot Mulroney is also set to play the President of the United States in the series. Carmen Ejogo, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Charlayne Woodard have also been cast in currently undisclosed roles.
We can’t wait to catch all the mad action that awaits when Secret Invasion hits Disney+ on June 21.
