Sylvester Stallone Takes Swing at Longtime ‘Rocky’ Producer Over ‘Drago’ Spinoff

The Rocky Cinematic Universe is expanding, but not everyone’s happy about it. With the boxing film franchise boasting incredible success with its Creed spinoff, MGM has confirmed that another spinoff, Drago, is in the works. Fans will remember that in 1985’s Rocky IV, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) was killed in the ring by Soviet Olympic Boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). The Dragos then returned to the storyline in Creed II back in 2018 when Adonis Creed faced Ivan’s son, Viktor Drago. While many have been excited about the new venture, Rocky himself (Sylvester Stallone) let rip on social media and slammed producer Irwin Winkler for “exploiting” the franchise.

If you follow Stallone on social media, it’s pretty clear there’s some serious beef with the Winkler family. As seen above, the Rocky creator delivered a beautiful counter uppercut to the breaking news, “ONCE AGAIN, IRWIN WINKLER, this PATHETIC 94-year-old PRODUCER and HIS MORONIC VULTURE CHILDREN, Charles And David, are once again picking clean THE BONES of another wonderful character I created without even telling me … I APOLOGIZE to the FANS, I never wanted ROCKY characters to be exploited by these parasites…”

The aforementioned “pathetic 94-year-old” is Hollywood veteran Irwin Winkler, an Academy Award-winning producer of the Rocky movies as well as other classics like Goodfellas and Raging Bull.

Stallone also took aim at OG Drago actor Dolph Lundgren, stating, “By the way, I once had nothing but respect for Dolph, but he NEVER told me about what was going on behind my back with the character I created for him!!!” Last year, Lundgren teased in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that a spinoff was on the way. “By the way, I think there’s some talk about doing a whole spinoff on Drago with MGM. So you may get more of that,” Lundgren said.

In the midst of all this drama, Creed III is reportedly scheduled to hit theatres on March 3. Michael B Jordan will not only star on the screen, but the film marks his directional debut. Plot details have been kept under wraps, but we know this will be the first time in the eight-part series Stallone won’t feature on screen.

Perhaps that’s for the best.
