Hit Netflix show House of Cards has had a tumultuous year. After leading man Kevin Spacey had his run-in with the #metoo movement last year over allegations from the ’80s, the producers had an important decision to make: carry on without the star of the show, or fold the franchise, putting hundreds of innocent cast and crew out of work.
Deciding to continue the storyline without Spacey’s character, US President Francis Underwood (who we have already seen previously is now dead–a logical way to get the character out of the script), a new teaser trailer has now been released, showing the tough and empowered Claire Underwood, now a widow, taking the seat in the oval office and defiantly declaring: “The reign of the middle-aged white man is over.”
Through what is revealed to be crocodile tears, she stares the camera head-on, declaring everything her husband has said in his five years as president, is a lie.
Though Claire has polled strongly with fans previously, which triggered a debate surrounding equal pay for actress Robin Wright and Spacey, ultimately leading to her equal remuneration, it is yet to be said whether fans will return to the beleaguered political drama in the same numbers as previously.
The sixth and final season of House of Cards will premiere on November 2, only on Netflix.
