The Sopranos Are Back at it in “The Many Saints of Newark”

When The Sopranos came to an end, fans were left clamoring for more. The show was a hit for its six seasons, winning a total of 21 Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes. Well, get ready to get your fix with the new feature length film based on The Sopranos universe: The Many Saints of Newark.

The Many Saints of Newark is the proposed title for the project that promises to be a prequel to The Sopranos. The idea has been kicked around by sopranos creator David Chase since 2016. Chase will be writing the film with the help of the HBO series’ writer Lawrence Konner. New Line will be producing and Chase will be the producer with Nicole Lambert as executive producer.

The story will be set during the riots in the 1960s, where rival African-American and Italian gangs clashed, often with deadly results. With the setting of the film being the 1960s, chances are we’ll most likely see Tony Soprano’s father Giovanni “Johnny Boy”, who was the captain of the Soprano crew, his wife Livia, and Tony’s uncle Junior.

It’s possible that you might see some of your favorite actors in the film. Unfortunately, James Gandolfini and Frank Vincent have both passed, but Edie Falco, Steven Van Zandt, Jami-Lynn Sigler, Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Dominic Chianese, Steve Schirripa, and Tony Sirico are available.
