WATCH: Chris Hemsworth Brutalises Baddies in the First Look at ‘Extraction 2’
While he’s best known for dominating the big screen as a certain god of thunder, one of Chris Hemsworth’s best outings in recent years was actually the Netflix production Extraction, which saw him trade his red cape for black ops gear and featured some of the most intense action this side of the John Wick franchise. Despite his character appearing to die at the film’s closing, Hemsworth is back for Extraction 2, and a new behind-the-scenes first look promises his return as Tyler Rake – possibly the most American-sounding name ever bestowed upon an Aussie – will up the ante with “at least twice the action”.

Going by the new footage, the sequel to Netflix’s 2020 action extravaganza trades the oppressive heat of Dhaka, Bangladesh for a far chillier location, with much of the combat taking place amidst considerable snowfall. While that would probably make most of us want to stay in and rug up by the fire, Hemsworth is out there punchin’, shootin’ and explodin’ bad guys left and right.
Extraction 2 also seems set to build on the strengths of its predecessor – much of the buzz around the last flick was due to a signature sequence that tracked an extensive gun battle, using a camera that moved in and out of vehicles without an obvious cut. The new trailer sees returning director Sam Hargrave promise that the sequel will outdo even that ambitious set piece “with a sequence more intricate and more extreme than before”.
From a stunt that involves a real helicopter landing on top of a moving train to more car crashes and exploding motorcycles than you can throw a magic-infused hammer at, Extraction 2 certainly doesn’t appear to be pulling any of its punches.
While the film’s precise release date is yet to be confirmed beyond simply “2023”, we’re already very much on board, and if the sequel lives up to the original, the guy who got his start as Kim Hyde on Home and Away may just have another massive franchise on his hands.
