Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams are teaming up as executive producers for a new series Lovecraft Country which is coming to HBO this August. The first trailer has been unleashed, giving us a real good look at the southern gothic series.
Lovecraft Country is based on the well-received 2016 horror novel of the same name written by Matt Ruff. HBO says the series “follows Atticus Freeman as he joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.”
Beyond heavy hitters Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams, Lovecraft Country is also produced by Misha Green who also serves as showrunner. Green’s credits include producer on the series “Underground” as well staff writer on “Sons of Anarchy.” Lovecraft County stars Jonathan Majors, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Courtney B. Vance and Michael Kenneth Williams.
HBO has not revealed an exact date for the series, just an August release window for now. For Australian viewers, you can expect Foxtel to pick up Lovecraft Country as the pay-TV network is the Australian home of HBO content.
