Another beautiful sunny spring morning, another trailer for a comic book film. Welcome to Wednesday.
Today we bring you the first teaser trailer for next year’s latest release from Marvel, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow, a continuation from the events of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.
Starring Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, a deadly Russian assassin, trained by the KGB, in what has to be one of the most original storylines ever conceived. She becomes “Black Widow”, a superhero who inevitably becomes one of the Avengers.
Also starring David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz, the film is set to explore some of Black Widow’s deeper character traits, while she faces her past.
Johansson herself has described the film as: “An opportunity to explore the Widow as a woman who has come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself, probably for once in her life … She really is in a dark place where she’s got no one to call and nowhere to go. She’s really grappling with her own self.”
The trailer, which doesn’t give too much away, hints that the film will give us the usual balance of high-adrenaline action and subtle humour that we’ve come to expect from Marvel; a formula that they have carefully honed over the past 23 films released under the same umbrella.
Black Widow is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on May 1, 2020.
