Fast and Furious fans have a lot to look forward to with Fast and Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw. Not only do Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham team up, they face off against Idris Elba. But now we’re finding out that the real bad guy isn’t Elba. Just like we discovered that Dominic Toretto’s tormentor had been Cipher all along, there’s a mastermind behind the trials that Hobbs and Shaw are facing. The man in the shadows for this pair will be Keanu Reeves.
There aren’t many details about Reeves’ role in the film, but all indications point to his not appearing until the end and possibly even as a post-credits scene. It’s a smart move. The spin-off could use a star with a huge draw to set up the sequel.
Using the Fast and Furious name alone has a huge pull with audiences. Add in Johnson and Statham playing their fan-favourite roles, and you’re almost assured success. Top it off with Elba, and you’ve got enough star power to fuel any film to the top. But adding in yet another big name in Reeves?
Now it seems like just overkill. Even if the script is an utter fiasco, people will be lining up just to see their favourite actors in action.
