Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Smashes Apple Music One-Day Streaming Record

Music’s biggest competition is heating up. Just days after Kanye West set the world ablaze with the release of DONDAlong-time rival Drake unveiled the highly anticipated Certified Lover Boy. The duel for streaming supremacy had fans on both sides, but with the numbers officially coming in, it seems Drake had the upper hand. The Canadian rapper’s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, now holds the title for the most-streamed album on Apple Music in a single day, ever, breaking his own record, previously held by Scorpion.

A representative for Apple Music reportedly told Complex the album’s streaming statistics place it as a global record for the year, but it’s not really a surprise. The star-studded release features collaborations with Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Kid Cudi, Young Thug, Future, Lil Baby, Rick Ross, and more across 21 songs. Among them, “Girls Want Girls” with Lil Baby, “Champagne Poetry,” and “Fair Trade” with Travis Scott have also been named the three biggest song debuts ever on the platform—a title previously held by Drizzy’s “Nonstop.”

For Drake, the success came quickly. Billboard is reporting that Certified Lover Boy broke the Apple Music one-day streaming record just 12 hours after it was released, reaching the top of Apple Music’s Top Albums charts in 145 countries. It’s a landmark result that eclipses Kanye West’s exorbitant DONDA in many respects, but that hasn’t silenced Ye.

The Chicago legend is doubling down on his feud with Drake, in the most petty of ways. According to Hypebeast, To promote his album, Drake put up massive billboards all across his hometown of Toronto highlighting the album’s features. West retaliated by setting up bigger and more obnoxious billboards right next to Drake’s in the streets of Toronto, not that it matters. Drake still had the last laugh.
