Australian Open Champion, Paralympian, Triple J host and all round nice guy Dylan Alcott has announced the launch of his very own fundraising event, ABILITY FEST alongside the launch of his very own Dylan Alcott Foundation.
Teaming up with seasoned event experts Untitled Group (the organisers behind Pitch, Beyond The Valley, For The Love and more), ABILITY FEST is the latest music festival designed to provide an inclusive festival experience for all.
With an aim to normalise disability and to pave a way for inclusivity within the Australian music scene, ABILITY FEST is designed to break barriers for people with a disability, creating a fully accessible venue, which will include multiple viewing platforms for wheel chaired attendees, as well as the inclusion of AUSLAN translators visible onstage for all mainstage acts. ABILITY FEST aims to provide an environment for all to celebrate music – regardless of age, gender, disability or race, and raise funds for a significant cause.
The event is lead by a star studded lineup of Australian legends including a very special headline Flight Facilities and Client Liaison B2B DJ set, as well as Tkay Maidza, Motez, Ninajirachi, Kingswood, Japanese Wallpaper and many many more – all who are donating their time for the great cause.
Founder Dylan Alcott commented on the generosity of all artists, Untitled Group, PR agencies and sponsors who have donated their time and resources to the event, “ABILITY FEST exists to break down the stigma surrounding disabilities and remove the barriers those living with a disability face on a daily basis.I really struggled with my disability when I was younger and music festivals were one of the first places I truly felt accepted, which is why we felt a festival was the perfect way to launch DAF. We want individuals with disabilities and those from the able-bodied community to enjoy the experience together as a community.”
ABILITY FEST is an 18+ event and will take place on Saturday 7th April at the Coburg Velodrome, Melbourne with ALL proceeds from the event to go to the new Dylan Alcott Foundation.
The Dylan Alcott Foundation is aiming to raise over $300,000 with the core purpose of helping young Australians with disabilities gain self-esteem and respect through sport and study, through scholarships, mentoring and grants.
