The Iron Throne may be made of swords claimed from fallen foes, but Fender is looking to make its own throne with Game of Thrones inspired guitars. The guitars represent the houses vying for the throne—specifically Houses Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen. A whole bevy of features goes into each guitar, and you pay for those features with the guitars being priced at USD$25,000, $30,000, and $35,000 respectively.
Officially dubbed the Sigil Collection, the guitars are all handcrafted by Fender Custom Shop Principal Master Builder Ron Thorn and draw: “Inspiration from each house’s family sigil, costume designs, armour and weaponry, as well as each of their locations in Westeros, sparing no detail,” states the Fender press release.
House Targaryen will be represented by a Stratocaster, House Stark by a Telecaster, and House Lannister by a Jaguar. Regardless of which guitar you pick, they all feature “Ornate and unique features,” explains the press release, including: “Dragon scale carvings, custom engraved inlays, hand-carved headstocks and gold-plated pickguards.”
While many companies are cashing in on the opportunity to borrow the Game of Thrones brand to increase their sales, such is not the case for Fender (though it certainly can’t hurt). The story behind these guitars actually traces to a friendship between show creator D.B. Weiss, who is a longtime guitar player himself, and the CEO of Fender.
