The Ron Burgundy Podcast season 2 recently kicked off and the legendary newsman appeared on Jimmy Kimmel to celebrate. The visit also served as an opportunity to share some stand-up comedy. With his typical and impeccable timing and self-aggrandizement, Burgundy shows that his skills don’t extend beyond being an anchor.
Burgundy even tries his hand at impersonations, nearly landing a likeness of Jack Nicholson and Jimmy Stewart. As far as debuts go, it…went.
Burgundy’s second season started out with a bang, landing 2020 US Presidential hopeful Kamala Harris as a guest. Those unfamiliar with the podcast will recognise Will Ferrell playing the character he made famous in Anchorman. For the podcast, guests play along with Burgundy being a real person.
For Burgundy, the show is spot on. “My podcast, quite simply, can only be described as a raging success,” says Burgundy of the first season. “I’ll admit—when I first started in this rodeo, it was my first rodeo, and I had no idea what a podcast even was. But through diligent research and persistence, I quickly climbed my way up to the top. And now, it is not my first rodeo.
“It is now, literally, my second rodeo. And word on the street is that I am already the best rodeo rider that has ever lived…and podcaster too. This is a fact, folks.” Burgundy has made appearances on several late-night shows in addition to Kimmy Kimmel to plug his podcast, including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan O’Brien, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Season 2 looks to have just as strong a line-up as season 1, which included people like Deepak Chopra, RuPaul, and Peter Dinklage. In season 2, Burgundy will be interviewing actress Brook Shields, activist Gloria Steinem, historian and political commentator Doris Kerns Goodwin, and others.
