5 Questions With Romy Klerks

For a dreary Tuesday afternoon in March, nothing seems further away then summer. Thanks to ole mate global warming, summer in Sydney this year was a cracker. We’re talking hot days and long nights, really, it’s no wonder that the warmer months attract boatloads of visitors from around the world. Lucky for us, this year one of those visitors was none other than the stunning Romy Klerk. One of Amsterdam’s finest exports, Romy is no stranger to the camera. Our go-to shutterbug, Harry Hayes, caught up with Romy down at Clovelly beach to find out what makes her tick.

Five Questions with Romy Klerks.

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Romy, I am 22 years old and am born and raised in The Netherlands together with my younger brother and sisters. From the moment I finished high school, I have been exploring the world. I studied International Hotelschool for one year but realised that traveling teaches me much more in a different way. I love to learn from all the different cultures, the people I meet along the way and the high and low lights of life.

My modeling career started in Amsterdam when I was 19 years old. I went to Cape Town to build up my portfolio and when I came back it all went very quickly. I stayed in London, Hamburg, and Paris for a few months to meet some amazing clients and before I knew it modeling became my full-time job. Last year my boyfriend finished his studies and now we are exploring the world together. Modeling can be a lonely job sometimes, having him by my side made me feel so blessed.

What’s the favorite place that you’ve been so far?

Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve found something to love. New Zealand left me speechless, Mother Earth created the most insane landscapes there. It is the place where my love for hiking began (we made an IG account of our trip: even.enroute). For a romantic experience, I love Italy. Strolling around the historical centers and the small streets in the evening give me so much pleasure. Also the food there is delicious, for that reason, I would love to retire there.

But, for this stage of my life, I absolutely adore living in Bondi. I feel free living close to the ocean, the people are very open and friendly too and you Aussie’s are so lucky with the good climate in Sydney. Life is really good here. Each trip I take shows me the beauty of her own and the beauty of other places in the world at the same time. I always return with more appreciation for the world. I am beyond grateful for the life given to me. If you are planning a trip, do not hesitate to contact me for advice. I’d love to share my experiences with you.

How do you like spending your free time?

Now I am in Sydney I practice yoga in the morning and after I treat myself with a coffee and a big healthy breakfast. I love to spend my evenings on the beach, and on the weekends I like to go somewhere new and explore. In The Netherlands, I visited my friends and family as much as I could.

Also, I love to spend a day at the sauna, to go out for dinner or to spend lots of time in the kitchen and oh those festivals Amsterdam has to offer..!

If you weren’t a model what would your dream career be?

I would be baking banana bread for a living

If there’s one thing about you’d change about the world right now, what is it?

I have been thinking of this question for years. First of all, I believe all of us are lucky to live in such a good world.

To share some of my inner thoughts with you… sometimes I struggle with the things that seem so important in our world nowadays; for example the access to the internet and what we name achievements. We are all so ‘busy’. What is that about? A better world starts with ourselves.

What can we do? Well, I believe inside us, there is the strength to love and to have someone love you back. That right there is the power to make people happy. Also, happy people do not do cruel things… You don’t have to be a lifesaver to save a life. Next to that, we are the ones who are responsible for the next generation, to raise them with kindness and awareness, so one day this planet will be ruled by love only (without war and violence).
