$120 Balenciaga Coffee Cup is Surprisingly Affordable
When you compare it to the price of the brands most recent ‘hose-clamp’ endeavour (that cost a whopping AU$1300) the coffee cup starts to look like the bargain of the century. In fact, we’re not sure it’s all that much more expensive than those porcelain coffee cups you buy at your local Starbucks. And it has to be said, that if Kanye West were to drink coffee, it would be from one of these porcelain coffee cups from Balenciaga.

So what do you get for the money? Well, the brand describes this piece as a ‘functional vessel’ that mirrors the coated paper and plastic disposable to-go cup. It’s double-walled so the contents stay warm throughout the day (because everyone sips on their coffee for 8-hours, obviously) and there’s a Balenciaga branded logo on the exterior. On paper, it’s no better or worse than a traditional coffee cup besides some environmental factors that are completely nullified when you consider the product is made in China and then air transported around the world before making its way to your front door for utmost convenience. Most importantly, we want one.
As part of the ongoing ‘Objects line,’ the brand intertwines some ‘city’ elements which are representative of the city in which the cup was purchased. Very similar, actually identical, in vein to that of Starbucks who sell their famous coffee mugs with city motifs of the same character. In any case, Balenciagas cups are available to purchase online now for AU$120. Australian customers can choose from Sydney and Melbourne, however, we prefer the ‘Paris’ edition cup, but apparently so does everyone else and it’s already sold out. Alongside pretty much all the US cities.
