Fashion’s great trickle-down ethos is in full swing. Fresh off a stunning collaboration with Moschino, affordable retailer H&M has dropped a new collection with iconic fashion house Mugler. Designed by Mugler creative director Casey Cadwallader, the new range includes womenswear, menswear, and accessories, encapsulating the essence of Mugler – high glamour with a daring approach to style.
Founded by the French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler in 1973, the brand has continued to evolve, growing into one of our favourites. The OG champion of body positivity and gender fluidity, Mugler is ready to bring its history of avant-garde fashion and boundary-breaking haute couture to the likes of H&M, and we couldn’t be more excited.
“We are proud to celebrate the legacy of Manfred Thierry Mugler with this collection. We were all honoured to get to know Manfred, and it feels very special that he was involved at the initial stages together with Casey and the house of Mugler,” Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M said in a statement. “Casey has done such an incredible job at paying homage to history, and to the archive while making the collection totally contemporary. Under him, Mugler has become one of the most innovative and exciting houses on today’s fashion landscape.”
The collection is defined by dynamism, uniting both brand’s history with its present and future, offering various Mugler classics and signatures. If you’re wondering what to expect from the collection, think limited-edition archive remakes from the glory years of the ’80s and ’90s catwalk drama, fluid transformational cross-gender styling and cuts featuring strong, big shoulders and a tight focus on the waist.
“It is truly an honour to collaborate with H&M,” Casey Cadwallader, creative director at Mugler said. “The collection is a celebration of everything that defines Mugler as a house and each piece is authentic Mugler, from the bodysuits, which have become a signature of ours, to the sharp tailoring and worked denim. It is a showcase of our icons.”
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, there’s even a music video to celebrate the release. Rising stars Amaarae, Shygirl, Eartheater and Arca re-imagine Stardust’s 1998 dance hit ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ in a nod to the sense of community that defines Cadwallader’s vision for Mugler today.
Not just a collaboration, but a global symbol of how far fashion has come, H&M provides a timely pedestal for what the future of fashion should be. By recognising the pioneering brand’s remarkable history and influence, the unique collaboration echoes the Mugler ethos of inclusivity and the fluidity of fashion that has become mainstream today.
