While Patagonia has always been a brand that stands up for its beliefs, the new Regenerative Stand Up Short is something else. The adventure wear brand is sending a pointed message. The back of the tag is emblazoned with the words “VOTE THE ASSHOLES OUT” in all caps.
Of course, aside from the less-than-subtle message, the Patagonia Original Stand Up Shorts are a solid addition to the hiking wardrobe. These shorts are now made of a 9.5 ounce Regenerative Organic Certification Pilot Cotton that is soured from farms that operate according to Patagonia’s high standards. These standards work to rehabilitate the soil, respect animal welfare, and improve the lives of the farmers.
The shorts have a high-waisted traditional cut. Wide leg openings allow for greater movement. They close via a center-front shank button and a metal zipper, and have a six-inch inseam. The fabric is double layer in the front and back seat, granting the shorts longer life and more durability. The pockets have reinforced stitching and the rear pockets have a VELCRO closure.
Given that these shorts live up to their “Stand Up” name, you will have to break them in a bit when you start wearing them. But that also means that you’ll have plenty of time with these shorts to break them in. They’ll last longer than any other shorts you might have or could purchase. They come in an Earthworm Brown colorway and are available in waist sizes 28 through 40. They are priced at USD$79.
