On the 28th of November, Australia’s largest online fashion portal returned to the runway for their 4th annual Summer Show (previously called the Swim Show). This time, however, they really shook things up.
Instead of hosting the show in Sydney like previous years, THE ICONIC opted to celebrate the Summer season in a place synonymous with sunshine and beautiful beaches; Brisbane, Queensland. Held at The Calile Hotel which is easily Australia’s trendiest hotel right now, the setting was quite perfect to show off this season’s must-have fashion items.
Starting the day off with a round table discussion, a panel of industry thought leaders including sustainability and diversity professionals placed emphasis on the importance of fashion that is both ethical, sustainable and all-inclusive. Understanding this and the dire impact that fast fashion can have on our planet, THE ICONIC is eager to change the way consumers shop by way of slowly increasing more considered buying habits across their online shopping site.
And as for diversity and inclusion? They really do walk the talk. More than 1,000 leading local and international brands were featured on this year’s body-positive runway with 30 models ranging from a size 6 to a size 16. Also on the runway were models from all ages, races and cultural backgrounds including international model Halima Aden, the world’s first hijab-wearing model that opened the show.
As for the trends you can expect to see dominating Australian and New Zealand beaches, pools and parties this Summer, the following themes were the most prominent: Retro Tech, California Escape, 90’s Revival and Urban Safari.
