Versace’s Fall-Winter 2022 Collection is Opulent, Just Not As You’d Think
Versace claims its Fall-Winter 2022 Men’s collection proposes a ‘modern opulence rooted in the reality of now’, and there’s a lot to unpack. Sure, the collection unifies elements of its heritage and tradition with cutting-edge techniques and innovation, but there’s a refinement to the traditionally ostentatious garments that feels clean. With solid forms, fluid lines and adaptable designs, the contemporary take on luxury is one of Versace’s best.

“Launching this new chapter on the second day of the second month in 2022 feels right,” Donatella Versace said. “It represents the next step and a move forward, not focusing on the singular but on multiplicity, progression, and diversity … exactly what I see valued by the new generation and the way they express their masculinity in so many refreshing ways. This collection embraces that by looking not at the Versace Man but to the Versace Men.”
According to the famed fashion house, the fall-winter 2022 collection designs are ‘sensitive and intimate’ to the individual, ushering in a new era of representation. Bold and colourful, the highlight garments are layered with muted greys, masterfully drawing your eye to the brash new pieces. Sensuality seems to be a big focus for the high fashion staple, with Versace looking at the personal ritual of not only dressing but also the transformative ability that clothing has.

Naturally, bright and positive colours like cerise, pink, and orange are highlighted with solid blocks of colour, while heritage ornate prints arrived in stencilled bicolour like the new Barocco Silhouette. The La Greca continues as a brand monogram that is interplayed through cable knit sweaters as well as vivid lurex cardigans. In terms of suiting, Versace also unveiled as a series of soft and unstructured garments, elevated with sartorial pinstripe and checks, but that is not all that has been reimagined. The wool jacquard knitwear and formal coats are now available in brushed wool, cashmere and silk blends that revel in hand-feel.
From there, the token shoes are a handy addition, if a little unspectacular, however, the new bag collection delivers some stand-outs. Available in a structured brushed leather option as well as a soft grained leather option that moulds to the shape of the body, the line’s carry pieces are true Versace all over. The brand says the new hardware is a refinement of codes, while the subtle La Greca print leaves a lasting impression. For a fashion house with a long legacy of contemporary menswear, the new fall-winter 2022 collection is a reserved approach. And for that, we are thankful.
