When Axl Rose wasn’t fronting Guns N’ Roses or filling in for Brian Johnson as the singer of AC/DC, he managed to find time to design and launch a limited edition Skull wristwatch through HYT Watches. After a backstage encounter with the HYT crew, Axl wasted no time brainstorming a watch that defined his spirit. HYT built it and now it’s available for you to buy.
Axl Rose has good taste because HYT will shatter any preconceptions you may have about watchmaking as they use liquid for telling time. Two flexible reservoirs, a blue liquid and a transparent liquid, are moved by a piston. The hours are indicated by the blue liquid, then a capillary pushes the transparent liquid through the other hour indicators. It’s complicated I know, but ever since water clocks were used by the pharaohs, watchmakers have dreamed of using a liquid in wristwatches, HYT has succeeded.
Axl Rose chose a Skull base for his watch, which under his direction was given a Damascus steel and blue colour treatment. He then decided to affix two side plates at 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock, decorated with the Clous de Paris pattern. On the back, HYT pays tribute to the rock icon in the form of the legendary Guns N’ Roses logo. Underneath this sits the singer’s signature on the metallised sapphire case-back. This piece has a resolutely rock ‘n’ roll feel, with a bold strap featuring blue topstitching and a 51 mm DLC titanium case with micro-blasted finishes. The Skull Axl Rose is limited to just 25 pieces. It could be yours, but only if you act fast.
