adidas Recycles the Classics with New Sustainable Parley Collection

They say a classic never dies, but sneaker specialist adidas is making sure they will at least biodegrade. The German footwear icon has continued its ongoing partnership with environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans, unveiling a new collection of eco-friendly Originals for Spring/Summer 2022. In a move towards sustainable operations, some of adidas’ most iconic silhouettes have been reborn as ultra-earth-conscious creations.

Arriving on April 22, the latest collection reintroduces arguably the brand’s best releases in a whole new way. Classic sneakers like the Superstar, Stan Smith and Forum Low have been redesigned with a few modern additions, representing a new take on the classic styles. Outside of that, there are also bold reinterpretations of the ZX 8000 Forum Mid, NMD_R1 and two women’s exclusives in the Forum Bold W and Nizza Platform.

Perhaps the most exciting release in the lineup, however, is the Nizza. arriving in both high and low variations, the modern style features a refined material construction that feels innately more futuristic. This time around, the sneaker has also been accentuated with a small black label across the heel, alongside a black heel tab.

The new adidas x Parley Spring/Summer Collection may look familiar by design, but it’s what lies underneath that sets the lineup apart. According to the footwear icon, each sneaker in the collection has been crafted from yarn that contains at least 50 per cent Parley Ocean Plastic. This unique material is a mixture of reimagined plastic waste that has been intercepted on remote islands, beaches and coastal communities in an effort to reduce ongoing ocean pollution.  The other 50 per cent of the yarn is comprised of recycled polyester, a further demonstration of adidas’ commitment to End Plastic Waste.

The first of the adidas Originals by Parley SS22 collection dropped on April 22 online, with further releases expected to come over the next few months. In the meantime, you can check out the full lineup and learn a little more about adidas’ sustainable commitments, via the link below.
