Love it or hate it, Balenciaga is the most talked about fashion brand in the world right now. It’s been only a few months since they tapped into The Simpsons and released a 10min campaign showcasing the Spring/ Summer 2022 collection, but they’re not slowing down. While we eagerly await the ready-to-wear collection release, the first piece has officially been announced and it’s likely the most controversial.

What you’re looking at has been appropriately dubbed the ‘Space Shoe’ and we’re unsure whether to call them the best looking things in the world or the ugliest. They give off full Rick Owens Tech Runner vibes, and just like those equally striking sneakers, we reckon the ‘Space Shoe’ will look a whole lot better with a head to toe outfit. Regardless, you’ll be offering futuristic vibes while looking like a total alien wearing these shoes.
Offering fans a taste of the black colourway first, we expect a red colour to arrive soon, as showcased in the SS22 runway show. Made from rubber and finished in either a patent or a matte effect, the shoe has a striking (literally) elongated toe shape. We can’t imagine how painful it would be to cop a kick to the shin in these, but watching someone attempt to walk up a set of stairs would be equally hilarious. On the surface, they look like some kind of Derby, but further inspection reveals they’re a psuedo loafer with architectural like shaping and wide footbed.
Pre-orders for the Space Shoe are available globally via the link below. Coming in at an $875 USD price tag, they’re actually a rather reasonably priced item when you compare it to the hoodies and t-shirts in the collection. Rubber construction certainly influences the price.
